We are in a world of reboots and now we get another one. This time it’s the Grudge. Originally released in 2004, the Grudge reboot directed by Nicolas Pesce and produced by Sam Raimi is set to be released on January 3rd, 2020. The trailer was released on Monday, October 28th and here are my thoughts.
The movie is rated R. The original film was rated PG-13, but I don’t think the original would’ve been magically saved if it was rated R; however, I did get a sense of optimism when I saw the rating. I’m hoping to see some dark and twisted scenes in the film.
Sam Raimi has certainly proven himself in the horror genre, so I’m hopeful he will turn the Grudge around. Of course, CGI has improved drastically since 2004. I hope they are able to balance out CGI with real props, but what they have in the trailer looked good so far.
I had an American Horror Story Murder House vibe. Spoiler alert to those who have not seen the first season of American Horror Story, but it seems like those who are killed in the house stay in the house. Especially since we get glimpses of other people who look to be resurrected.
Overall, I’m impressed with what I saw so far. I hope the next couple of trailers they release won’t give anything away. As long as they don’t give away any plot twists or show the biggest scares, then I’m looking forward to see more! Also, did you know the original Grudge was a trilogy? I had no idea!
Have you seen the trailer? What did you think of it? Are you looking forward to the new movie, and what did you think of the original films? Let me know in the comments! You can also see the trailer below.
